1996 (parution posthume)
After the artist's death further publications of his work have appeared, including "I'm all eyes", "Friends and others" or "14 forgotten loves".
Following the death of Horst Janssen and after long negotiations, the Oldenburg collector and patron of the arts Claus Hüppe in1995 bought one of the major collections of Janssen works from Carl and Carin Vogel. This collection includes in particular many originals from the artist's early days between 1947 and 1975. When the C & C Vogel collection was acquired, the city of Oldenburg agreed to build a museum for the Janssen collection.
The C & C Vogel collection of the Claus Hüppe Foundation, further Janssen works from the Claus Hüppe Foundation, works owned by the city of Oldenburg and on loan from Oldenburg collectors amount to almost 2000 works, and this figure is constantly growing. The aim here is not merely to collect works by Horst Janssen in the museum and to show them there, but to integrate works by artists from the second half of the 20th century who have influenced Horst Janssen's art or been inspired by it themselves.
The museum can also draw on the collection of graphic art in the neighbouring Stadtmuseum, which features European graphic art of the 16th to 20th century, including a complete collection of the graphic work of Francisco de Goya. Putting this together with its own collection, which will focus on graphic art in the second half of the 20th century, the Horst Janssen Museum will be able to organise fascinating exhibitions from its own resources.
There are plans for further acquisitions so that the Museum can present as complete a picture as possible of Horst Janssen as an artist and a person. New purchases will also include photographs and objects from Janssen's personal life.
